The title track of Thin Lizzy's most successful album, “Jailbreak” never charted as a single in the U.S. It did chart in the U.K., however, reaching Number 31 there.
The song, whose theme is explained by the title, introduced the loose concept of the Jailbreak album, with other tracks spawning from the idea of a group of guys who had busted out of incarceration.
Thin Lizzy's U.K. label originally felt that the Jailbreak album didn't have anything good enough to be released as a single, but they revised their opinion after the success of “The Boys Are Back In Town” in the U.S.
The Jailbreak album peaked at Number 18 on the Billboard 200 and earned a gold record, making it Thin Lizzy's top seller in the U.S. It reached Number Ten in the U.K.
The Jailbreak album was recorded in the Who's Ramport Studios
