Registration open for Eagle trips to Starved Rock

Jan 3, 2024 | 11:53 AM

January 3, 2024- The Macon County Conservation District has announced registration for three eagle viewing trips in January and February.

The Macon County Conservation District is hosting eagle viewing trips to Starved Rock State Park. Participants will embark on Saturdays, January 20th, 27th, and February 3rd, at 9 am, departing from the Rock Springs Nature Center. The trips will return around 4pm.

Alysia Callison, Director of Program Services, sheds light on the significance of the trips, stating, “As smaller waterways and bodies of water freeze over in the cold weather, larger rivers like Illinois typically do not freeze, and serve as an excellent feeding ground for bald eagles moving through the area. If conditions are right, eagles can often be seen congregating at Starved Rock State Park, and it is really a sight to behold.”

Participants will also have the chance to explore the Lock and Dam Museum.  The fee is $30 per person. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and bring your their lunch or opt for a purchase from the Starved Rock restaurant. To secure a spot, pre-registration is essential and can be completed online at MaconCountyConservation.org by noon the day before each trip.
