February 11, 2024 – There’s still time to dig into Gardening Insights 2024, hosted by Macon County Master Gardeners. This one-day event, packed with workshops, vendor shopping, and an engaging speaker, is ideal for all gardening enthusiasts.
Gardening Insights will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Life Foursquare Church in Decatur. University of Illinois Extension experts and Master Gardener volunteers will lead a variety of workshops. Participants can choose to attend three workshops in addition to the keynote presentation. Amanda Thomsen of Kiss My Aster fame is the keynote speaker for the day. Thomsen’s presentation will be 150 Ways to Make A Fantastic Yard Totally Tailored to You.
Workshop topics include:
- Common Invasives and Control Methods
- This Isn’t Your Grandparents’ Gardening Weather
- Prune Your Trees Like a Pro
- These Plants are for the Birds
- Cultivating a Pollinator Paradise
- Hops At Home: Cultivating Aromatic Cones in Your Backyard
- The Native Gardener’s Palette
- Another Vegetable Container Talk, Really?
- Sweet Secrets of Growing Backyard Berries
- Rain Garden Essentials: Design, Build, Plant
Adults/caregivers may also bring kids ages 5 to 18 to the event. Macon County 4-H staff will provide STEM-themed activities for the kids while adults attend the sessions. There is a $35 registration fee for adults, which includes a boxed lunch. Register at go.illinois.edu/GI2024until Feb. 18.
