February 13, 2024 – Macon County 4-H’s award-winning robotics team, Super SCREAM Bros, is hoping for another trip to the FIRST® World Competition this spring. This FIRST Tech Challenge Team has made back-to-back trips to the World competition and hopes to have another chance to compete for the prestigious World Championship after the Illinois State Championship on March 1 and 2 in Elgin.
The ten-member robotics team recently competed in the Southern Central Qualifier, ending the competition as winning alliance captain, a first for the team, and clinched their spot in the FIRST Illinois Championship. Other accomplishments for the day included winning the Motivate Award and second place Think Award. Super SCREAM Bros also set the record for the state’s high score without penalties.
The Motivate Award is a judged award given to the team that makes a dedicated effort to share FIRST in their school and community, encouraging others to “embrace the culture of FIRST.” Super SCREAM Bros outreach efforts have included events such as hosting a summer camp for kids ages 10 to 18 to teach design concepts in Fusion 360 and Inkscape and a FIRST Lego League Qualifier. The team also assisted FIRST Lego League teams with programming robots. Super SCREAM Bros demonstrated their FTC robot at library programs, a Blaze hockey game, and a community center.
