DPS61 to host “Parent University” February 22nd

Feb 20, 2024 | 2:00 PM

February 20, 2024 – District 61 is encouraging parents to enroll in the latest round of “Parent University” classes to help combat behavioral issues in school.

The class will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at MacArthur High School (1499 W. Grand Avenue). There will be refreshments provided.

While initially focusing on topics like completing FAFSA or navigating Skyward, the district says the third round of classes this school year will pivot to getting parents involved to help support their students and work with the schools on correcting behavior.

During a recent community meeting hosted by Decatur Public Schools to discuss the fighting and violence happening within DPS61 schools, Decatur Superintendent Dr. Rochelle Clark said a large part of the problem stems from lack of parental responsibility and involvement is a big part of the problem. “We need to reach those families and students to curb that behavior. We have to make them parent“
