February 20, 2024 – Richland Community College continues to be offline following a cyber security incident over the weekend.

Sunday afternoon, students were notified that classes for Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday would need to be held off-campus following what was described as a network security incident that disrupted Richland’s systems.  The RCC website is currently down, as well as servers giving students access to any saved work on the server.  Students can access Canvas, however not through the RCC site. Labs are still able to be held on campus.

Tuesday afternoon, students were advised that the issue was not yet resolved and classes would also have to be held remotely for Thursday.

Richland Community College said when the security event occurred, they immediately activated their incident response plan and began working to determine the extent of the disruption.

“To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we are unable to share additional information about the nature of the incident at this time. We are actively and thoroughly investigating the incident with third-party experts. We will provide further updates and information as we are able,” said a Richland spokesperson.
