Decatur Public Schools urges families to take 5 Essentials Survey

February 28, 2024- Decatur Public Schools is asking students, teachers, and parents to fill out the 5 essentials survey to improve schools around the district. 

The annual 5 essentials survey identifies how schools around the district are doing on the five indicators that lead to improved outcomes for students.  

The 5 indicators are:  

  • Effective Leaders 
  • Collaborative Teachers 
  • Involved Families 
  • Supportive Environments 
  • Ambitious Instructions 

The survey takes no longer than 10-15 minutes and all info shared is anonymous. DPS61 says that completing this survey will help guide the district in its ongoing efforts improve schools and “continue to offer students an excellent education.”  

The survey is also required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The data collected through the survey is analyzed to generate a 5Essentials Report for each school, as well as summary reports for school districts. The 5Essentials Reports include a breakdown of teacher, student, and parent responses and provides a comprehensive picture of the school environment.
