March 5, 2024 – NowDecatur alum and Mt Zion graduate, Brandon Kondritz, has been selected as a top 10 finalist for the prestigious and highly competitive NPR College Podcast Challenge.

Kondritz, who is a second year multimedia journalism student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism,  got started in his media career as the host of the Young Leaders In Action podcast “Nobody Asked Us” on NowDecatur.com. Kondritz then joined the NowDecatur team, first as an intern, then last year as a supervising director for the new intern class.

The NPR College Podcast Challenge received more than 500 entries this year from campuses all over the country. Kondritz’s podcast focused on the impact of ditching his digital devices for a day. You can listen to the podcast HERE.

Kondritz said it has been an incredible honor to have been selected as a finalist and named one of the Top 10 college podcasts in the nation. “Like many others, I’ve always admired NPR as a platform for engaging podcast-style content, and seeing my name and work published on their website alongside 9 other students is quite surreal! The recognition is a testament to my time with NowDecatur, too, showing just how much a twice-monthly podcast and two summers of covering the community’s best have taught me about good storytelling.”

Kondritz has already won a $500 prize for being a top 10 finalist. NPR judges will announced the Grand Prize Winner at the end of March. The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a $5000 scholarship, and their podcast will be featured on NPR’s newsmagazines like Morning Edition or All Things Considered.

Kondritz joined Byers & Co to discuss being selected as one of 10 finalists for NPR’s annual College Podcast Challenge. Listen to the podcast now!
