Assistance agencies to host sign up event for home energy assistance

Mar 13, 2024 | 3:22 PM

March 13th, 2024 – Dove Financial Assistance (DFA), Empowerment Opportunity Center (EOC) and the Energy Assistance Foundation (EAF) will host an evening of service to assist utility customers eligible for energy assistance grants through LIHEAP (low- income home energy assistance program) or the Warm Neighbors Cool Friends program. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Empowerment Opportunity Center located at 360 East Marietta in Decatur, IL.

The main purpose of the Energy Assistance Program is to help low-income citizens offsetting the rising cost of home energy through direct financial assistance, energy counseling, outreach, and education.

The program allows the State of Illinois to reach not only the increasingly vulnerable low-income population, but also to serve as an important entry point for a variety of other needed social services for the low-income population.

“We are honored to host this event with Dove Financial Assistance and the Energy Assistance Foundation in our beautiful facility and bring together other social service agencies to share their programs with individuals and families struggling financially,” said Karla Jordan, Energy Services Director for EOC. “Empowerment’s Energy Services Program has seen a huge increase in LIHEAP eligible households this year and we hope this evening event makes it easier for those families that are unable to apply for services during regular business hours.”

To sign up for LIHEAP or WNCF assistance at the event, bring a copy of your energy bill, current rent receipt or proof of homeownership, proof of income and identification material social security cards for each family member in the home and photo ID including a driver’s license or state ID.
