March 17, 2024 –The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Office of Tourism, has announced the launch of a new video series to showcase the state’s outdoor recreational opportunities. Titled “Real People, Real Stories, Real Outdoors,” the series seeks to highlight experiences of Illinois residents and visitors engaging in outdoor activities across the state.
With Illinois boasting 70 state parks and recreation areas, 2,900 lakes, and seven national scenic byways, the series aims to underscore the diversity of outdoor attractions available. Through firsthand accounts and visuals, viewers will be introduced to picturesque nature trails, hidden gems, iconic landmarks, and unique accommodations.
Director Kristin Richards of DCEO emphasized the potential of promoting Illinois as a leading outdoor destination, particularly in rural areas. “This campaign showcases the breadth of outdoor experiences in Illinois, which can attract outdoor enthusiasts and bolster economic development,” said Richards.

The series features stories of families enjoying camping and fishing at various Illinois locations, friends embarking on outdoor adventures away from urban centers, and climbers exploring the state’s diverse terrain.
