Decatur Arts Council to host exhibit showcasing “Manga style”

Mar 25, 2024 | 12:30 PM

March 25, 2024 – The Decatur Area Arts Council is set to unveil “Evanescent Encounter,” an exhibit featuring vibrant manga-style paintings by artist Jave Yoshimoto, from April 5th to the 25th at the Anne Lloyd Gallery in downtown Decatur.

The Decatur Area Arts Council describes Jave Yoshimoto’s brilliantly colored gouache paintings as an infusion of traditional Japanese prints with contemporary depictions of modern disasters. “He captures viewers’ attention with poignant imagery and emotion reminiscent of Japanese Manga.”

Yoshimoto’s art, heavily influenced by his upbringing in America, yet rooted in his Japanese heritage, explores the convergence of tradition and contemporary society. His graphic style and use of saturated imagery mirror the intensity often associated with media coverage of natural and manmade catastrophes.

The opening reception for “Evanescent Encounter” will coincide with Downtown Decatur’s First Friday Gallery Walk on April 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., offering the public an opportunity to engage with the artist’s work.

The event is free to attend and includes not only the Anne Lloyd Gallery but also Gallery 510 and Blue Connection, each featuring distinct exhibits and activities.
