March 25, 2024 – Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has launched the 2024 Cream of the Crop Photo Contest, inviting young photographers aged 8 to 18 to capture scenes of agriculture in the state through their lenses.

“Our great state is a leader in the agricultural industry, thanks to skilled workers, millions of acres of rich farmland, and diversity in products,” Treasurer Michael Frerichs said. “The Cream of the Crop competition is designed to inspire students to pick up their cameras and phones, go out and explore, and showcase the beauty of Illinois agriculture.”

The contest, now in its 12th year, encourages budding photographers to submit their entries by June 14, with scholarships of $1,000, $500, and $250 awaiting winners in each of the three age categories. The Treasurer’s Office is accepting electronic submissions through the contest website, with students allowed to submit up to two photos each.

Winning entries will be featured in Ag Invest marketing materials, next year’s Cream of the Crop calendar, and showcased at the 2024 Illinois State Fair.
