March 26, 2024 -In celebration of the Decatur Park District’s 100th anniversary, the zoo has introduced a new carousel animal to Scovill Zoo, a majestic giraffe.
The giraffe carousel animal has been carefully selected as a static animal, so the animal will not move up and down, making it an ideal choice for children who may be hesitant or less confident about riding carousel animals.
Longtime volunteer, Barb Janes, made the new addition possible by purchasing the giraffe. The giraffe carousel animal was crafted by Eric Tomlinson and the team at All Around Carousels, LTD, located in Mansfield, Ohio. As an enchanting touch, a playful monkey can be spotted peeking out from under the saddle of the giraffe.
Scovill Zoo will officially open for the season on Saturday, March 30th.
