April 3, 2024 – 7 Brew coffee in Mt Zion recently honored local Young Leaders In Action Facilitator and local teacher Temethia Joyner as their March 7 Brew Hero and presented Young Leaders in Action with a check for $1065.00.
The drive-thru coffee company honors a local hero of the month by donating $1 from every drink on a single day to a charity of the honoree’s choice. Joyner, as the facilitator of YLIA of The Heart of Illinois Community Foundation, chose the youth organization as the recipient.
“Joyner’s dedication to helping youth and young adults reach their goals under difficult circumstances and inspiring positive change through leadership initiatives has significantly impacted the lives of many in our community,” said Natalie Beck, President of the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation.
In addition to the donation to YLIA, Joyner received $500 cash and free 7 Brew drinks for one year. At the end of 2024, one hero will be selected to win the Hero of the Year and will be awarded a grand prize.
“I enjoy creating diverse experiences and fostering an environment to help young leaders harness their strengths and grow in ways they never imagined,” said Joyner. “My passion for giving and serving others is a strong human value deeply instilled and exemplified by my amazing parents, Vincent and Debra Barbee.”
Joyner was nominated by the mother of one of her students, Erin Ireland, who has seen the impact her teaching has had on her daughter and other students.
“Mrs. Joyner is a true light in our community, and she has been making all the difference with the kids she has been able to teach,” said Erin Ireland. “YLIA has taught my daughter to be more confident and has instilled a passion to create change for the better.”
