Crossing Healthcare looking for volunteer gardeners for Prescription Garden Program

By Lindsay Romano Apr 16, 2024 | 11:53 AM

April 16, 2024 – Crossing Healthcare is looking for volunteers with green thumbs to help with it’s prescription garden program this month through October.

Volunteers are needed from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on weekdays and would lend a hand with weeding, prepping garden beds, and more.

Crossing said volunteers would be providing more than just their gardening expertise. “Lend a hand in our garden oasis, providing fresh produce to patients who face barriers to accessing healthy food,” Crossing said in a statement.

The Prescription Produce Program at Crossing Healthcare Garden provides access to fresh produce for patients facing health challenges such as prediabetes, diabetes, elevated BMI, substance use disorders, or food insecurity. Held every Friday from June to October, qualified participants receive a complimentary bag of produce along with recipes to promote healthy eating habits. Community members can also purchase a bag for $5 or redeem WIC coupons or Senior Farmer Market coupons.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Allison Raiha 217-877-9117 Ext. 3190.
