For a chilly, rainy Tuesday, the energy at Sangamon Valley Intermediate School is anything but ELECTRIC! We quickly learned that while just ONE teacher was receiving a surprise today, the entire building -students, teachers, and faculty alike- were just as excited as our Teacher of the Month would soon be! They ALL teamed up to not only give our teacher her very own assembly, but also called on her family members from just down the road to all the way out of state to join in the fun! After her students showed off their very well-rehearsed chant for Ms Bauer, it was time for Dodgeball Day! Congratulations Ms Bauer! Here are what some of her much deserved nominations said:
“Miss Bauer is an incredible teacher! I have never met anyone with a more upbeat and positive attitude! She is able to find the good in every student, and encourages growth daily. Miss Bauer cultivates a love of reading by setting aside time daily for a read-aloud with Harry Potter. Her students are put into the HP class houses, and she ends the first book with a themed party while watching the movie. I have had two children go through her third grade class, and each year I marvel at how engaged they become and how their love of reading grows. She will switch to Percy Jackson in the spring. Additionally, Miss Bauer is active outside the classroom, showing up a basketball games and sporting events to support her students participating. She has been the teacher representative for the PTO for several years. She was instrumental in getting a music/arts grants for the Intermediate school. She is always the first to volunteer to help with a program or project. Miss Bauer is constantly creating new and fun projects for her students so that learning is FUN! Sangamon Valley is a low-income school district, and Miss Bauer, like so many teachers, provides many supplies from her own pocket. She supplies a snack drawer so that no student ever has to learn with a hungry belly. She works at Starbucks as a second job, and brings in treats and goodies as surprises for her students when they have done a good job. Or just because. I cannot think of a more deserving teacher!”
“My kids love her! I’ve seen so much growth in my kids, I know she is doing her job right! She is just an awesome teacher!!”
“Miss Bauer taught both of my children and still my children’s favorite teachers! She has an amazing way of bringing FUN to the classroom while learning at the same time. Also, I have had the privilege of teaching in the same building and such a delight to work with. She is always positive and always smiling. She truly will go above and beyond for all students and coworkers!”
