May 15, 2024 – Hundreds of college students are kicking off their summer internships with Caterpillar this week, including more than 50 from the University of Illinois.

Caterpillar took more than 625 summer interns to Peoria for an orientation where they immersed themselves in Caterpillar culture, heard from top executives, and literally played in the dirt with the big yellow machines.

This annual orientation has been so successful that it has grown over the past few years. And interns say not only is this experience educational, but it’s also fun and sets them up for a great summer of hands-on learning.

Nora Duffy, University of Illinois student and Caterpillar information technology intern said she’s excited to apply the things she has learn. “I’m just so excited to get hands on skills with everything I have been learning and practicing in my school work,” Duffy said. “I can finally apply that in a real life scenario and build on those skills even better.”

Caterpillar hired more than half of its interns as full-time employees last year.
