May 29, 2024 – The Decatur Park District held an official ribbon cutting for the recent improvements at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater.
The development expanded the existing concessions and bathroom areas as well as added a new VIP Skydeck that can accommodate up to 40 additional guests.
The project was started in late October, and due to moderate winters conditions, O’Shea Builders of Springfield was able to complete the improvements in record time and by the goal date of the opening show.
Devon General Manager, Dustin Bradshaw, said the expansion of the concession area allows them to bring in more stock that they couldn’t hold before and the additional bathrooms will help provide a better visitor experience.
“We had 3018 people here for the Taylor Swift tribute, Burning Red,” Bradshaw said. “A crowd like that would previously have caused a 30 to 40 minute line at the ladies room, but the expansion helped to alleviate that problem.”
The expansion was paid for in part by a $500,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Since it’s opening in May of 2019, the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater has had over 250,000 visitors.
