Jun 3, 2024 | 6:54 PM

June 3, 2024 –The Decatur Area Arts Council’s Summer Arts & Culture gallery exhibit Local Locomotives opens Friday, June 7. The Anne Lloyd Gallery will kick off the showcase during the First Friday Gallery Walk and will be the home to the free display June 7 – July 23.

The exhibit features a collection of “artifacts, images, model trains, and historical knowledge on trains traveling through Illinois.” Featured prominently in the show are photographs taken by DCLI and NowDecatur.com intern Isaiah Bradford. His work was recommended to DAAC Gallery & Education Coordinator Hannah Lyons who said she could instantly see “how talented and creative” his work is and that the “vibrant colors and attention to detail in his photos of the trains” would fit into the show. In addition to Bradford’s photographs, the exhibit will contain unique artifacts including a conductor’s hat, lanterns, dishware, models, and more.

DAAC will feature additional activities during the First Friday Gallery Walk including a child-size train with a conductor, hands-on artmaking, music, a presentation on early Decatur railroads, and complimentary snacks and drinks. Gallery 510 and Blue Connection will also have art on display. For more information on Local Locomotives, visit decaturarts.org.
