June 5, 2024 – Decatur Police announced the arrest of two men in the 2011 cold case of Caleb Witty.

17-year-old Witty was shot and killed on August 4, 2011, while walking home from the Decatur Celebration with his sister. Witty was trying to protect his sister during an attempted robbery.

Michael Isaiah Wallace, 34 of Decatur and Bobby Lee Gibson, 34 of Tennessee and formerly of Decatur, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder Wednesday following what Decatur Police called a lengthy and complicated investigation.

Wallace is being held at the Macon County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Thursday. Macon County State’s Attorney Scott Rueter stated that he will file to deny Wallace a pre-trial release. Gibson is being held in the Knox County Jail in Tennessee pending extradition to Illinois.

While Brandell could not comment further on the details of the investigation, which is still ongoing, he did state that the public was instrumental in the investigation and that they are not currently seeking any additional suspects.
