June 23, 2024 – The Illinois Department on Aging will award Kate Whicker with the 2024 Adult Protective Services (APS) Advocate of the Year at a ceremony in Springfield on June 25th.
Whicker is a Supervisor with CHELP, a senior care agency in Decatur and has been an advocate for the clients of Adult Protective Services. One of her colleagues and nominators wrote: “{Kate} genuinely cares about her clients and goes above and beyond to meet their needs. She has helped many clients get out of abuse and self-neglecting situations. Kate worked with a developmentally delayed client to receive mental health care and assisted in getting them into a group home. Kate’s professionalism and attitude impress everyone at our agency.”
CHELP, the designated APS agency for Macon, DeWitt, McLean and Livingston counties, investigates and supports seniors and adults with disabilities who are at risk of being abused.
