June 36, 2024 – Richland Community College will be holding an emergency drill on Friday, June 28, and wants the community to know that there is no need for alarm.
The college will be hosting a Radiological Response Demonstration for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency for the Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS). In this drill, the Radiological Response Group (RRG) will go through a nuclear power station event scenario. The demonstration also involves law enforcement (security), fire assets (decontamination of vehicles), and county emergency management agency.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., the group will be working in the area outside Bistro Five Thirty Seven, a portion of the parking lot, the Shilling Community Education Center Auditorium, Green Room and Salons.
The College wants to reassure the public this is only a drill, and if they see emergency vehicles or personnel in protective gear, there is no cause for alarm. Richland Community College is closed on Fridays during the summer, so no students will be on campus at that time.
