IL unemployment increased for the year in June

July 28, 2024 – Over-the-year, total nonfarm jobs increased in five metropolitan areas, decreased in six, and was unchanged or nearly unchanged in three for the year ending June 2024, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security (DES). Over-the-year, the unemployment rate increased in all fourteen metropolitan areas.

In Decatur, the number of total nonfarm jobs in the Decatur metro area decreased by -700 compared to last June.

Employment increased in the Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities (+100) sector.

Payrolls were unchanged in the Information, Manufacturing, Other Services, Retail Trade, Financial Activities and Wholesale Trade sectors.

Payroll employment decreased in the Private Education-Health Services (-300), Leisure-Hospitality (-200), Professional-Business Services (-100), Mining-Construction (-100) and Government (-100) between June 2023 and June 2024.
