July 28, 2024 – Del’s Popcorn Shop in Mt Zion held it’s 90th anniversary this weekend with a celebration and ribbon cutting.

Illinois State Representative Brad Halbrook presented a certificate from the Illinois State Legislature and Mayor Luke Williams presented a plaque commemorating their landmark anniversary.

The celebration also included children’s games, bounce houses, refreshments, and giveaways.

Generations of families have enjoyed Del’s popcorn and candy including the caramel apples and popcorn bunnies.  Del’s Popcorn Shop owns two locations since beginning in downtown Decatur 90 years ago:  100 Debby Drive, Mt. Zion and 3013 Lindbergh Blvd., Springfield.

Originally, Del’s was opened by John Baldwin in historic downtown Decatur as The Popcorn Shop.   In the 1960s, Del Barnett took over operations of the Popcorn Shop and renamed it Del’s Popcorn Shop.   The name stuck.   Later, in the 1970s, Del’s was purchased by the current owner, the Jacobs Family.
