Pantries supply list of most needed items for WSOY Community Food Drive on October 4th

August 11, 2024 – With the return of the WSOY Community Food Drive on October 4th, organizers are also bringing back the option to donate non-perishable food items to help fill the communities largest pantries.

Food donated during the WSOY Community Food Drive will be split between Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, and Northeast Community Fund. Bulk items will be donated to Good Samaritan Inn to assist with their noon lunch program. Monetary donations will be distributed through an application process available to all food pantries and feeding programs in Macon County.

For those wishing to donate non-perishable food items, the pantries have supplied lists of their most needed items.

Salvation Army Pantry:

  • Canned vegetables such as corn, mixed veggies, peas, carrots
  • Canned and jarred fruits such as peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, and apple sauce
  • Canned/pouches of meat such as tuna and chicken
  • Pastas including egg noodles,
  • Mac & Cheese, hamburger helper
  • breakfast cereals and oatmeal

Catholic Charities Pantry

  • Trail mixes and
  • freeze dried fruits
  • jerky
  • Granola bars
  • Canned/pouches of meats such as tuna and chicken
  • cereals
  • peanut butter
  • jelly/jams

 Northeast Community Fund

  • Canned vegetables such as corn, green beans, peas, carrots
  • Canned fruits such as peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, and apple sauce
  • Canned meals such as chili, ravioli and soups
  • Canned/pouches of meats such as tuna or chicken
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Boxed meals such as Mac and cheese, Hamburger Helper, and instant potatoes
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Rice
  • Peanut Butter and jars of jelly

Good Samaritan Inn – Good Samaritan Inn provides a noon lunch program as well as sack lunches for those in need. For this reason, they need bulk-size items that you would typically find at a wholesale store like Sam’s or Costco. They are also in need of bulk-sized packaged items for sack lunches.

  • Bulk-size canned vegetables such as corn, green beans, carrots, asparagus, creamed corn, peas, greens, potatoes, sweet potatoes
  • Bulk-size canned fruit such as peaches, mandarin oranges, and fruit cocktail
  • Bulk individually wrapped items for sack lunches including
    • Cookies
    • Fruit cups and fruit snacks
    • Peanut Butter Crackers
    • Beef sticks and jerky
    • granola bars
    • variety boxes of chips
    • Packages of bottled water
