August 14, 2024 – Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU) and the City of Decatur hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to celebrate their collaboration and complete refurbishment of a Union St. home to use as transitional housing.
The partnership began last year, when LLCU donated a house to the city to serve as transitional housing for displaced families to use from 6 months to 2 years. “We’re interested in making Decatur better and that happens with each investment in the community,” said LLCU CEO and President Robert Ares.
The project was a collaborative effort involving LLCU, the City of Decatur, Richland Community College Workforce Development, Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly, and the Empowerment Opportunity Center, which will use the home as transitional housing.
“I think this is a true example of how partners can work together to make a huge impact in the community.” said Tara Murray executive director of Empowerment Opportunity Center.
The home is located at 2074 N. Union St. in Decatur.
