August 20, 2024 – The Macon County Conservation District’s annual Hummingbird Festival will place on Thursday, August 22 at Rock Springs Conservation Area.

The event, held from 3-6 pm, will be hosted by Vernon Kleen of the Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders. This event offers a unique opportunity to learn about various hummingbird species and discover what attracts them to our area.

Attendees can watch as wild hummingbirds are carefully caught, banded, and released, offering a rare glimpse into the world of these fascinating creatures. Arrive early for a chance to help release a hummingbird and enter a drawing to win a special prize. Bring a lawn chair to the west lawn of Rock Springs Nature Center and enjoy the afternoon. You are welcome to bring your own snacks or picnic dinner to make the most of the experience.

The festival is free to attend, with donations accepted. This event is co-sponsored by the Decatur Area Audubon Society. No registration required.
