September 4, 2024 -The U of I Extension Master Gardeners are offering fall training opportunities beginning this month.

Master Gardeners are volunteers who provide unbiased, research-based information after completing classes taught by University of Illinois specialists and Extension Educators. Illinois Extension Master Gardeners host educational programs in the community, respond to calls or emails from the public, maintain demonstration gardens, and donate food from community gardens.

There are two locations for the fall Master Gardener hybrid training. Macon County’s sessions will be on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Sept.10 through Dec.10 at the Decatur Public Library, 130 N. Franklin St. in Decatur. DeWitt County’s sessions will be on Thursdays, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 12 through Dec.12 at the DeWitt County Extension Office, 1160 IL-54 Suite B in Clinton. The fee for the hybrid training is $175, and fee waivers are available.

A self-paced online training is also available and will begin on Oct. 7 and run through Dec. 31. The fee for this training is $300, and the deadline to register is Sept. 9.

Master Gardener training includes botany, soils, vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees and shrubs, grasses, landscaping, insects, and diseases.

Visit go.illinois.edu/mgtrainingdmp by Sept. 6 to register for either of the training options.
