September 8, 2024- The Executive Director of the Decatur Area Arts Council,  Jerry Johnson, has announced plans to retire, effective December 30, 2024.

Jerry has been involved with the Decatur Area Arts Council for the past 13 years. The Council board said that the DAAC has seen numerous milestones under Johnson’s leadership including the introduction of more public art initiatives, shepherded the DAAC through the COVID pandemic, and helped the DAAC to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“Jerry’s impact on the Decatur Area Arts Council and the community is immeasurable. His legacy will be felt for years to come, and he will be missed by colleagues, artists, and the many community members whose lives he has touched. He assures us that he intends to remain active in the local arts scene,” the board stated in a release.

The DAAC says it will begin the search for Johnson’s replacement and said they plan to honor Johnson with a retirement celebration on December 6th.
