October 17, 2024 – The historic Culver House in Decatur is hosting a special event, “Halloween at The Culver House” on October 26th, featuring literary readings and a look into Decatur’s past.

The event, at 412 W Prairie Ave, will begin at 6pm with a happy hour (complete with spirits) at 6pm and spooky readings beginning at 7:00 pm. During intermission, attendees can tour the Culver House and meet the “residents” as well as hear stories of the past.
Tickets are $25 per person and seating is limited.  You can purchase tickets by clicking HERE.
The event is presented by Historic Decatur Foundation.
The Culver House has stood on Prairie since 1888.  It was the home of a local attorney, then was purchased by John H. Culver, a prominent businessman who lived there until his death.  It was later turned into apartments, and after a fire in 1979, it was not once, but twice slated for demolition.

The Historic Decatur Foundation stepped in and saved this piece of local history and is working to revitalize this historic home which is located in the Historic District.  It is the last Queen Ann-style home in Decatur with a turret.
