October 27, 2024 – Over-the-year, total nonfarm jobs increased in nine metropolitan areas and decreased in five for the year ending September 2024, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Illinois Department of Employment Security (DES). Over-the-year, the unemployment rate decreased in eight areas, increased in five, and was unchanged in one.
In Decatur, the not-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.9 percent in September 2024 decreased from 6.2 percent in September 2023.
Over-the-year, nonfarm employment increased by +200.
Employment increased in the Mining-Construction (+300) and Government (+200) sectors.
Payrolls were unchanged in Private Education-Health Services, Information, Other Services, Retail Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Wholesale Trade and Financial Activities.
Payroll employment decreased in Leisure-Hospitality (-100), Manufacturing (-100) and Professional-Business Services (-100) between September 2024 and September 2023.
