October 27, 2024 – DPS61 Superintendent Dr. Rochelle Clark has announced plans to retire in June of 2026 at the end of her contract. Her retirement will mark the end of her thirty-two years in education.
“This is a full circle for me. I started my central office career here and I’m retiring here. It is bittersweet,” Dr. Clark stated. “Nevertheless, I know I am leaving the District in very capable hands.” Among other duties of leading the District, two primary goals are to continue the work on the strategic plan, known as Roadmap 2030 and also prepare for the upcoming opening of Dansby Magnet School. “Although I feel it is important to inform the community of my intent, I don’t want us to lose focus on what’s most important: our kids,” she added.
Once her tenure is complete, Dr. Clark looks forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and traveling. “I will always be #DPSPROUD!” she declared.
Bill Clevenger, President of the DPS Board of Education, expressed the Board’s gratitude for Dr. Clark’s leadership. “The Board is pleased with Dr. Clark’s leadership and wishes her well in her retirement. We know she will give DPS 100% and more through her retirement,” he stated. “As Dr. Clark noted, we must remain steadfast in developing our strategic plan, the opening of our new magnet school, and continue our focus on academic achievement. Student success is the goal here!” The Board will discuss a succession plan in the near future but feels the district is in good hands with its current leadership.”
