October 31, 2024 – The University of Illinois Extension in Macon County and Rock Springs Nature Center is inviting you to have a “smashing” good time while also helping the environment with a Pumpkin Smash.
Pumpkin Smash will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Rock Springs Nature Center, 3939 Nearing Lane. Illinois Extension Master Naturalist volunteers will also be on-site to offer activities for all ages.
To participate, remove any candles, ribbons, non-acrylic paint, or other non-organic materials from your pumpkins. A variety of smashing methods will be available, ensuring a fun and engaging experience for all ages. All pumpkins will be transported to a composting facility at the end of the event.
There is no cost to attend this Extension event, but attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to the Northeast Community Fund. For more information, visit go.illinois.edu/DMPSmash.
