Rotarty announces installation of more “Peace Polls” in community

November 3, 2024 – The Rotary Club of Decatur #180, in cooperation with the Decatur Area Arts Council and the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation, has announced the installation of a series of nine public monuments to peace, Peace Poles, throughout the City of Decatur.

The locations include:

  1. Children’s Museum of Illinois
  2. Crossing Healthcare
  3. Decatur Family YMCA
  4. Fairview Park Pavilion #1
  5. Good Samaritan Inn
  6. Preston Jackson Park
  7. Rock Spring Conservation Area
  8. Scovill Oriental Gardens
  9. Wellness Recovery Drop-in Center

According to a release from Rotary, “Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil for peace on earth.”

Each Peace Pole bears the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each of its four sides. The languages on the Decatur poles include English, as well as three other languages of the host location’s choice.

There are an estimated 250,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world.
