November 24, 2024 – The Decatur Family YMCA is hosting a youth 2Ball competition on Saturday December 14th.
The competition is open to young athletes ages 7-14. This fast-paced event challenges two-person teams to rack up the most points by shooting from designated spots on the court in just 60 seconds. The stakes are high, as top teams in the state for each age group will advance to the IHSA State Finals, where statewide winners will have the chance to compete during halftime at the high school basketball state championship games in March 2025.
The competition will take place at the Decatur YMCA gymnasium, with age-specific time slots:
• Ages 7-8: 8:00–9:00 AM
• Ages 9-10: 9:00–10:00 AM
• Ages 11-12: 10:00–11:00 AM
• Ages 13-14: 11:00 AM–12:00 PM
Each team consists of two players of the same gender, and participants must meet the age requirements as of the championship game date. The IHSA State Finals will be held in March, with girls’ statewide winners competing on March 8th in Normal, IL, and boys’ winners competing on March 15th in Champaign, IL.
The competition will also feature the support of Millikin Men’s Basketball, with players assisting as referees, scorekeepers, and volunteers to ensure an exciting and fair event for all participants.
Full gameplay, rules, ball sizes, and scoring details can be found at decaturymca.org.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills, have fun, and connect with their community,” said Dominic Santomassimo, CEO. “We are thrilled to host this competition and cheer on the participants as they aim for the state finals.”
