December 1, 2024 – The City of Decatur is accepting applications for financial assistance from Child Care Centers and Home Daycares.  Businesses interested can receive an application packet on the Decatur IL website or on the 3rd floor of the Decatur Civic Center in the Economic & Community Development Department.

Applications must be returned by December 12th at 3:00 p.m.  Three (3) grants of $20,000 will be awarded.

The City seeks qualified home daycares or centers who service infants and toddlers. Applicants must be registered with Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Center-based programs or family home programs (licensed or license exempt) that provide care as defined by the Illinois DCFS.  The childcare program must be listed on the Child Care Resource Service (CCRS) provider referral database and must currently be located within the City of Decatur.

Examples of what the Child Daycare program grant can be used for:

  1. Provide financial assistance to families, who due to income level, do not qualify for the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and are unable to afford childcare.  We understand that families are financially strained due to childcare costs.
  1. One-time funding to assist licensed providers towards retention efforts of their existing workforce.
  1. Outdoor playground space for infants and toddlers.
  1. Facility improvements i.e. furnace, a/c, landscaping, facades, etc.

Priority will be given to programs currently caring for 50% or more children whose care is paid for by the ICCAP. Programs must be full year (at least 47 weeks)/full day (at least 8 hours).
