December 11, 2024 – A local project to supply Northeast Community Fund with can openers concludes Thursday with a goal of 800 can openers.
Local resident Kathleen Dudley, organizer of the drive, said that NECF distributes thousands of food baskets each year, many of which included canned goods. “I don’t know about you, but a can opener is not an item I would think to grab in a house fire or other crisis. Logic would also dictate that if a family doesn’t have money for food, they may not have money to buy a can opener to open the food.”
Both electric and manual can openers are being accepted. They can be dropped off at the following locations before December 12th:
- The Cross Church
- Central Christian Church
- Antiques by the Rail
- Rock Springs Enviromental Center
- 121 Coffee Run locations
- Rockwell Coffee Company
- The Art Farm
- Holy Family
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore
- The Shamrock Pub
