December 22, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Transportation has once again selected SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express, to provide Essential Air Service (EAS) to the Decatur Airport for a four-year term through December 31st, 2028.
SkyWest has provided jet service from the Decatur Airport to Chicago O’Hare since 2020. SkyWest will continue offering Decatur passengers twelve round trips per week to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) utilizing 50-passenger CRJ200 aircraft.
“The community’s support for SkyWest’s proposal to continue serving Decatur reflects the collaborative effort of
community leaders to support existing businesses, attract new businesses, and serve leisure travelers departing from Decatur,” the Decatur Airport said in a release.
In 2024, over 11,000 passengers have flown from Decatur to Chicago while enjoying the benefit of shorter security lines compared to departing from a major hub. The partnership between SkyWest and United Airlines not only grants Decatur passengers access to United’s extensive domestic and worldwide route network via its O’Hare hub but also enhances
connectivity opportunities for international itineraries and frequent flyer earnings.
