December 30, 2024 – Don’t let your old Christmas tree go to waste. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and IDNR are offering a way to get rid of your Christmas tree and help the environment.

You can donate your old live tree to the Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance and Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which will bundle the trees and place them in lake Shelbyville to provide habitat and breeding areas for fish.

Collection locations are located in Shelbyville and Sullivan. In Shelbyville, the collection site is located at the Johnstowne Mall. Residents are asked to put the trees in the snow fence area on the grass, in the northwest corner of the parking lot. In Sullivan, the trees can be donated at the 66 Gas Station south of Sullivan on route 32. The trees should be dropped off inside the snow fence area on the north end of the building.

You are asked to remove all ornaments, tinsle, lights, and decorations prior to drop off.  The collection will go until March 1.
