Looking Back: A Panel Discussion Kicks Off Decatur Public Library’s 150th Anniversary Celebration

January 12, 2025 -The Decatur Public Library has announced the first event in its year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary. On Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, DPL will host Looking Back: A Panel Discussion at the Madden Auditorium inside the Decatur Public Library.

This event will bring together current and former library staff and board members to share their stories and experiences from working at DPL over the years. Official Macon County Historian, Mark Sorensen will serve as moderator.
“We are thrilled to kick off our 150th anniversary with an evening of stories from those who have been part of DPL’s incredible journey and our ongoing commitment to being a vibrant and accessible resource for our community,” said DPL Director, Rick Meyer.
Looking Back: A Panel Discussion is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own memories of DPL to share.
In addition to this inaugural event, DPL has planned a variety of activities throughout 2025 to mark its milestone anniversary. The full lineup of upcoming events includes:
