March 19, 2025 – Young Leaders in Action of Macon County has announced the launch of their annual grant, conference, and application season. This year, YLIA is allocating $5,000 in grant money to innovative special education projects and invite local youth to participate in their annual Youth Leadership Conference. These initiatives are designed to support the current and future generations of leaders while making an impact on the community.
Macon County organizations with a demonstrated commitment to life skills and special education development are strongly encouraged to apply to the YLIA grant. Any nonprofit organizations, churches, or schools that seek to make a difference through the development and care of special education programs are welcomed.
“Spring is an exciting season for Young Leaders in Action, and we quickly agreed that supporting our community’s Special Education and Life Skills programs for children and adults is a valuable opportunity,” said the YLIA program director, Temethia Joyner. “We understand the need for financial support and are committed to contributing wherever possible.”
Additionally, any Macon County high school students interested in building long-term relationships, developing leadership skills, and making a difference in the community are encouraged to register for our Youth Leadership Conference. The conference, held at Montessori Academy for Peace from 9am-3pm on April 5th, 2025, features several 45-minute break-out sessions focusing around this year’s theme, “Finding balance.” Topics include AI, financial literacy, college prep and more. Participants will be provided YLIA swag, lunch, and the opportunity to engage in an immersive learning environment.
Macon County sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in taking part in future YLIA initiatives, as such, are encouraged to apply for membership. YLIA seeks to equip aspiring young leaders with the necessary skills to develop socially, professionally, and personally.
Those interested in any of these opportunities are encouraged to visit the YLIA Facebook page or for additional inquiries please contact the YLIA Program director, Temethia Joyner at tjoyner@heartofillinois.org
