March 27, 2025 – The Macon County Honor Guard is hoping to spread the word of their mission in hopes of gaining new members and financial assistance.
The Macon County Honor Guard provides a final tribute of respect to veterans at their funerals. They also perform duties such as Posting Colors at events and conducting Flag-Folding Ceremonies.
Honor Guards nationwide are facing a crisis as guard members age and younger veterans aren’t replacing them. The same can be said for the Macon County Honor Guard. This is particularly concerning as these groups play a vital role in paying tribute to fallen service members and veterans.
In addition, the Macon County Honor Guard is entirely composed of volunteers and is funded solely by donations.
The Macon County Sheriff’s office recently presented a financial gift to the Macon County Honor Guard as part of their “No Shave February Program.” Sheriff Jim Root presented a check for $2,395.00 to Commander Tom Black and Scott Scheibly from the program.
If you would like to support the Macon County Honor Guard, you can give a financial gift. Please make checks payable to “Macon County Honor Guard” and mail them to:
