April 20, 2025 – The Decatur Family YMCA has earned Praesidium Accreditation, the highest honor in abuse prevention practices for organizations serving youth and vulnerable adults.

Praesidium Accreditation recognizes organizations that meet rigorous standards in abuse prevention, including policies, screening and selection, training, feedback systems, and administrative practices. Decatur Family YMCA underwent a comprehensive review and demonstrated its commitment to maintaining a safe environment through documented safety practices and staff training.

“We are proud to send the message that we will not compromise the safety of those in our care-for any reason. Our mission is to provide a safe place for children to belong, grow, and thrive. With a certified Presidium Guardian on staff-Child Care Program Director Candace Leamon-we continually strengthen our commitment to best practices in youth protection.” said CEO Dominic Santomassimo.

The accreditation reflects Decatur YMCA’s long-standing focus on safety and its role as a leader in child abuse prevention in the region. The organization has served Macon County since 1877, offering programs for youth, families, and adults aimed at health, learning, and community involvement.
