Decatur Fire Department honored for life saving efforts during apartment fire

April 22, 2025 -The Decatur Fire Department was recognized today for their life-saving efforts during an apartment fire in February of this year.

On February 7, 2025, Battalion 1 arrived at an apartment complex on S Church Street and found fire showing from the second-floor window of the multi-story residential building. Smoke was visible from windows on the second and third floors, and four occupants were at a third-floor window calling for help. Engine 1 Crew attacked the fire while Truck 1 Crew simultaneously deployed the ladder to the third floor to rescue all four occupants.
After the fire was extinguished, Engine 1 Crew performed a search and located an unresponsive victim inside. The victim was removed and the crew immediately initiated medical care until they were relieved by AMR/Abbott personnel. The victim survived this incident thanks to DFD
