Decatur’s Bruce Nims receives prestigious Governor’s Volunteer Service Award

April 25, 2025 – Decatur’s Bruce Nims recieved the Outstanding Senior Volunteer award for Region 4 – Central Illinois. He was one of 16 recipients selected state-wide from over 60 nominations.

Bruce was nominated by the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation and honored for his volunteer efforts over the past 12 years as the creator and facilitator of a Board Governance training program in Macon County. He has delivered the course over 40 times, resulting in hundreds of people bringing their passion, skills and talents to community boards.

Bruce is retired from a career in information technology, including founding and leading an IT consulting firm for 26 years. He is a graduate of Millikin University and now teaches an Entrepreneurship course there.

Bruce is a current trustee for the Decatur Parks Foundation, volunteers with Culver House and is a former trustee for Millikin University and the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation. Bruce and his wife Kay live in Decatur.

Organized by the Illinois Department of Human Services and Service Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, these awards recognize individual volunteers through a statewide award program to highlight the importance of volunteerism and community service in the State of Illinois.
