May 12, 2025 – History of the Heartland will host the “SDHS Educators Living Legends” event on Thursday, May 15, in the backroom of Doherty’s Pub, celebrating the Stephen Decatur High School education team. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m., and the program will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The event, part of Decatur Historic Preservation Week, features a moderated panel discussion with former SDHS educators sharing memories. The public is encouraged to attend and share memories with their teachers. Dinner will be available at Doherty’s before and after the program, and admission is free.
“Our living legends events are a way for History of the Heartland to record numerous oral histories during one event. We have already recorded living legends discussions with Decatur Law Enforcement, Decatur Fire Department, Fans Field and the 1960’s era SDHS basketball teams. Often audience interaction triggers even more memories and great stories,” said Ayn Owens, founder of History of the Heartland.
