May 15, 2025 -The inaugural Officer Chris Oberheim Baseball Memorial Tournament, a special event honoring the life and legacy of Officer Chris Oberheim, will be held at Forsyth Park on May 16th to the 18th. Officer Chris Oberheim was tragically killed in the line of duty on May 19, 2021.
Hosted by Officer Oberheim’s niece, Kelsey Washburn, and her husband, Wyatt Washburn, the tournament will raise funds for Concerns of Police Survivors, Illinois Chapter (IL COPS)—an organization that provides vital support to families of fallen officers.
This year’s event marks the beginning of what the Washburns hope will become an annual tradition, with continued growth in participation and age divisions. The 2025 tournament will feature 18 8U travel baseball teams, bringing together young athletes from across Central Illinois and the local community.
In addition to the baseball action, the weekend will include family-friendly activities, including a police parade, food vendors, emergency vehicles for kids to explore, and visits from therapy dogs. The police parade will take place Saturday, May 17th at 10:00 AM with a tournament ceremony to follow. Finalized route will be posted to the tournament Facebook page, Officer Chris Oberheim Baseball Memorial Tournament.
“IL COPS was there for us through some of our hardest days and continues to be there for our family. We are excited to help raise funds for this amazing organization while keeping Chris’ legacy alive. We can’t thank the community and our vendors enough for helping make this event possible.” said Kelsey Washburn. “Our goal is to make this event more than a tournament with lots of family fun. Chris deserves it all plus so much more. I have no doubt he’s looking down smiling.”
