
May 13, 2025 -Deputy Chief Brian Cleary will retire this month after serving 30 years with the Decatur Police Department.
Deputy Chief Cleary joined DPD on May 23, 1995 and will retire exactly 30 years after he started on May 23, 2025.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to Deputy Chief Brian Cleary on his outstanding 30-year career with the Decatur Police Department,” Police Chief Brad Allen said. “Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Cleary has held numerous key roles and has been instrumental in driving the department’s progress and success. I wish him all the very best as he concludes this chapter in law enforcement.”
Cleary is a Decatur native and graduated from St. Teresa High School. After working Patrol for several years, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2006, then to Lieutenant in 2015, before his most recent position as Deputy Chief of Police – Investigations Division since 2022.
A new Deputy Chief of the Investigations Division will be announced by Chief Allen in the coming weeks.
