May 27, 2024 – The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners are hosting a weeklong gardening camp for kids to learn about gardening.

The program, Willie’s Garden, will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., beginning June 2 through June 6 at the Decatur Public Library. Kids ages 4-10 will spend the week learning about the various plants, insects, and wildlife that can be found in home gardens.

“Gardening with kids positively impacts social and emotional health, fosters healthy lifestyles and nutrition, and encourages environmental stewardship. Willy’s Garden, a fun-filled annual event led by University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners in Macon County, gives kids the opportunity to learn about horticulture and the natural world, sparking a lifelong passion for gardening,” says Whitney Allison, horticulture program coordinator.

Children should wear paint-friendly clothes, and parents are welcome to stay. This is a free event, but advance registration is requested. Register by May 30 at go.illinois.edu/WillysGarden. For more information, please contact wallison@illinois.edu.
