June 18, 2025 -The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) and the Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD) are teaming up to host a tire recycling event for Macon County residents. The event will take place on Friday, June 20th, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Unused or discarded tires can collect standing water and become ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. By offering a convenient and responsible disposal option, MCHD and MMAD aim to help reduce mosquito populations and minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in the community. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to promote public health and environmental safety.

Macon County residents can drop off up t0 ten rimless passenger tires per household on June 20th from 8am to noon at the Macon Mosquito Abatement District, 4170 N. Bearsdale Rd. Decatur, IL (Approach MMAD from the south on Bearsdale Rd.).

Lawnmower tires, motorcycle tires, semi-truck tires, tractor tires, or tires from commercial tire shops will not be accepted.
